Teamwork

Established in 2005 by our Director Kevin Turley, the Orkney Group consists of a close-knit team of professionals, comprising: carpenters (Orkney Construction), roofers and waterproofers (Orkney Roofing + Waterproofing), painters (Orkney Painting + Decorating). The name Orkney is a nod to the Orkney Islands. This archipelago in the Northern Isles of Scotland is where Kevin's forbears built their own lives and legacies before migrating to the Southern Hemisphere isles of New Zealand.

The early days of Orkney were spent buying tired houses and extensively renovating them before on-selling ('flipping homes'). Unfortunately, due to interest rates fluctuating over these early years, Kevin quickly realised that the banks were making more money out of these renovations than Orkney, so he decided to shift the business focus. Orkney now concentrates on clients like you - people seeking craftsmanship and a top-quality finish. Although budgets are still important, it's likely not the only factor influencing your decision-making.

Orkney leadership comprises a dedicated team that pride themselves on developing strong relationships that last long after your project is complete. We are a unique Wellington building company because we can offer you a full A-Z building or renovation service from initial design and architecture planning, right through to the finishing decorating touches! Each individual in our team focuses on delivering work you will feel proud to show off to friends and family.

Conscious of the environmental impact of the construction industry, we are eager to promote and contribute to more sustainable building practices. On all Orkney projects, we strive to make greener choices - this includes recycling leftover materials, burying leftover plasterboard, and using low/no VOC paint products. Kevin's passion for the environment led him to establish 'Green Abode' in 2015. Green Abode is focused on building energy-efficient homes. KEVIN TURLEY

ORKNEY FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR

When Kevin’s long-term love of construction and developments led him to launch Orkney in January 2005, he was able to meld two of his greatest passions – people and business. His natural leadership ability, integrity, and personable nature draw others to work for him and do business with him. He believes that looking after staff and customers is of utmost importance, and this is obvious in the way he runs the company. In his downtime, Kevin’s favourite things to do are spend time with his family and get out into the great outdoors.
