The Brief
The brief was to prepare and repaint the entire exterior following renovation work to the property.
The aim wasn't simply to change the colour.
With a home constructed from three shipping containers, the right preparation and coating system were important to achieve a durable finish across the different exterior surfaces.

The Challenge
Our Approach
Stubborn stickers and adhesive
Large stickers had been attached to the upper container for years and proved difficult to remove without damaging the surface underneath.
Moss, rust and weathered surfaces
Areas of moss and corrosion needed to be properly treated and prepared before painting to ensure the new coating system would adhere and provide lasting protection.
Once the stickers were removed, the team treated the moss with Resene Moss & Mould Killer and prepared the areas affected by rust.
A Resene-specified system was used to suit the home's mixed substrates. Prepared areas were primed with Rich Armour Zinc 110, followed by Resene Galvo One, while the remaining exterior surfaces were sanded and prepared before the finishing coats were applied.
The main exterior was finished in Resene CoolColour Lumbersider in Ironsand, with the steel frames around the garage doors finished in Resene Metallic Effect Silver Aluminium 1.

The Result
The finished exterior looks sharp and refreshed while still retaining everything that makes the Container House distinctive.
More importantly, the careful preparation and specified coating system have provided greater protection for the home's metal surfaces.
It's a good example of why exterior painting is about much more than the final colour. Good preparation, the right products and an understanding of the surface you're working with all play a part in achieving a finish that's made to last.
