The Brief
A commercial fitout brings together many different elements, and the painting plays an important part in how the finished space looks and feels.
For this Wellington city office, Orkney Painting + Decorating’s brief covered the interior painting associated with a wider fitout across two full floors.
New partition walls required a complete paint system, while selected existing surfaces needed attention where they had been affected by construction.
The aim was a consistent finish that brought the new and existing elements together and complemented the specified colour scheme.

The Challenge
Our Approach
Protecting the surrounding space
Spray painting the stairwell required careful protection to prevent overspray reaching other surfaces and finishes within the office.
Combining new and existing surfaces
Newly built walls needed full painting, alongside localised touch-ups to retained surfaces. Both required care to achieve a tidy overall appearance.
Getting the details right
Multiple wall colours and junctions around doors, skirtings and the ceiling grid called for clean edges and consistent finishing.
The new plasterboard partition walls were specified for a three-coat paint system, with multiple wall colours included in the fitout plans.
Preparation included sealing gaps where the new walls met the skirtings and ceiling grid. These junctions may seem like small details, but they make a noticeable difference to the completed finish.
The painting scope also covered selected new and existing doors. For retained walls affected by construction, the work focused on making good the paint finish in those areas, with minor remedial painting to perimeter walls and columns.
We enclosed the area around the stairwell with plastic sheeting before spray painting it green, protecting the rest of the space around it.
Together, these tasks addressed both the larger wall surfaces and the smaller finishing details throughout the agreed areas.

The Result
Light neutral walls, green accents and warm timber finishes give the completed office a welcoming feel. Meeting rooms, shared spaces and informal seating spaces each have their own character, with painted surfaces providing a backdrop to the wider interior design.
The photographs show how those elements work together, from the bright meeting rooms to the shared areas overlooking Wellington.
Orkney’s painting work contributed to a professionally presented workplace, helping complete the wider office fitout.
The project illustrates the value of careful finishing: consistent coverage across new walls, tidy junctions and attention to existing surfaces all play a part in the overall result.
