We’re excited to share that Miro Homes & Subdividing is now part of the Orkney Group family. This change brings together two companies with shared values and a practical approach to building, and it marks a new direction for us as we expand into a different part of the market.

In this article, we’ll explain why we made the move, how it fits in with our broader vision, and what it means for homeowners, subcontractors, and anyone considering a build with Miro Homes.

Expanding Our Offering to Serve More Kiwis

At Orkney Group, our focus has traditionally been on building architecturally designed homes with a high standard of workmanship. This includes both standard timber-framed homes and our high-performing structural insulated panel (SIP) homes.

Through Green Abode, we offer energy-efficient, future-ready homes built with SIPs for clients wanting better health, comfort, and performance. Our ecobode range delivers compact, transportable SIP homes that are ideal for downsizers, lifestyle block owners, or those seeking smarter small-scale living.

Taking on Miro Homes & Subdividing now allows us to expand into a new market segment, offering straightforward, code-compliant homes that help more people take the first step onto the property ladder.

Miro Homes has been known for delivering affordable, no-fuss builds; perfect for first-home buyers and developers looking for solid, reliable construction without unnecessary extras. By bringing Miro Homes under our wing, we can now support more of the Wellington community with builds that are practical, efficient, and affordable. We’re also able to support clients who need to subdivide their land as part of a Miro Homes build. While not the focus of every project, subdivision is something we can help coordinate from start to finish when it’s needed, taking the stress out of the process.

Scott Walker Continues to Lead Miro Homes

We’re pleased to share that Scott Walker will continue to lead Miro Homes as part of the Orkney Group team. Scott has been the face of Miro for many years, and his experience and leadership will help provide continuity for those familiar with the brand.

These homes will likely be built by our experienced team of Wellington builders, alongside some of Scott’s former contractors, where available.

What This Means for Homeowners and Subcontractors

The addition of Miro Homes to the Orkney Group is a positive step for people looking for practical new builds in the Wellington region, and for subcontractors working across a variety of residential construction projects.

Here’s what you can expect:

1. More Capability, Broader Reach

We can now take on a wider range of residential projects, including affordable new homes for first-home buyers and investors. The Miro Homes brand will continue to represent functional, cost-effective builds that meet NZ Building Code requirements; no frills, no overdesign, just well-built homes that do the job.

2. Consistency Across Projects

Whether your project is delivered under the Miro Homes, Green Abode or Orkney Construction name, you’ll benefit from the same practical approach and commitment to reliable results. Our process is built around clear communication and straightforward project delivery.

What’s Staying the Same

While Miro Homes now operates as part of Orkney Group, key elements remain consistent:

  • Scott Walker is still your main contact for Miro Homes. Now part of the Orkney team, Scott will continue to oversee Miro-branded projects.

  • The philosophy remains practical. Miro Homes are designed to offer simple, practical living solutions and an affordable entry point into the housing market, without unnecessary add-ons or complexity.

  • You can expect a straightforward process. We’re here to make it easier for clients to build, with honest conversations, realistic budgets, and reliable delivery.

Why It Matters

Taking on Miro Homes allows Orkney Group to support more people in our community, including first-home buyers and developers, with a broader range of building options. It complements our existing brands, helping us meet the needs of more New Zealanders, no matter where they are in their home ownership journey.

Looking Ahead

As trusted Wellington builders, Orkney Group is proud to now offer a full spectrum of building solutions from compact, energy-efficient ecobodes, to high-performance Green Abode homes, and now simple, practical Miro Homes for those entering the market.

Our wider offering now includes:

  • New home builds through Orkney Construction, Miro Homes, and Green Abode (including the ecobode range)

  • Wellington home renovations and extensions

  • Roofing and waterproofing (commercial and residential)
