Miro Home

When Orkney Group purchased Miro Homes & Subdividing in July 2025, we weren’t just adding a new service, we were welcoming a business with a clear purpose: helping more people enter the property market through homes that are truly achievable. After the acquisition, we renamed the business Miro Homes Wellington and began weaving its story into the broader Orkney Group vision. With the official launch of the new Miro Homes pages on our website, it feels like the right moment to share that story and what it means for our wider offering.

A Backstory Rooted in Accessibility and Smart Design

As outlined on our Miro Homes About page, the business began with a simple idea: create affordable homes that feel thoughtfully planned and attainable for first-home buyers and investors. For years, the Wellington property market has been tough to break into. Miro Homes set out to change that by focusing on compact, efficient homes that make the building journey less daunting.

This mission resonated with us at Orkney Group.

We’ve long offered a wide range of building, renovation, and maintenance services across the region. But Miro Homes filled a gap many Wellingtonians had been asking for. It gave us a way to support people at the very beginning of their property journey by offering entry-level homes that are affordable and designed around how people live.

With Miro Homes now part of our family, we’re able to bring more experience and support to those seeking a new build in Wellington without stretching beyond their means.

A Full Spectrum of Home Options for a Diverse Range of Needs

Bringing Miro Homes into Orkney Group allows us to support a broader range of people across Wellington, each with different goals, budgets, and ideas about what home should be.

For first-home buyers, investors, and anyone looking for an affordable home with streamlined plans and an accessible pathway into the market.

For those ready to build a family home with more design choice and flexibility.

For people seeking high-performing, energy-efficient homes that prioritise long-term sustainability and comfort.

Together, these offerings allow Orkney Group to meet the needs of different segments of our community, from those entering the market for the first time to those creating homes with advanced performance and customisation.

Building Miro Homes Across the Wellington Region

One of the great strengths of the Miro Homes offering is its flexibility. The plans are designed to work on a variety of sites and section sizes, which means we can build Miro Homes right across the Wellington region. From urban infill sites to developments, the streamlined designs adapt well to Wellington’s diverse landscapes and communities.

Designed to Feel Like Home from the Start

One of the core strengths of Miro Homes has always been its clear, practical set of plans. These homes are intentionally straightforward, making the building journey more accessible and less overwhelming.

Each Miro Homes plan centres on:

1. Smart use of space

Compact footprints require clever thinking. The layouts prioritise openness, natural flow, and rooms that adapt as your needs evolve, whether you’re furnishing your first home or creating an easy-care investment.

2. Architectural simplicity

Clean lines, balanced forms, and uncomplicated detailing all help keep costs down while creating light, comfortable living environments. Simplicity here is intentional; it supports affordability and ease of construction.

3. Everyday comfort

Warmth, light, airflow, and functionality were key considerations in every plan. These homes are designed for real life — calm mornings, busy evenings, and everything in between.

Five Moodboard Palettes to Personalise Your Home

A home feels truly yours when you can make choices that reflect your style. That’s why we offer five moodboard palettes, all showcased in our downloadable ebook.

These palettes cover both interior and exterior elements of the home. They bring together colours and finishes for spaces like walls and flooring, as well as key exterior features such as the roof and window trims that shape the overall look of your home.

All five palettes are built around neutral tones, chosen because they suit a wide range of preferences and work seamlessly across different homes and settings. The palettes vary in intensity — some lean toward lighter, softer neutrals, while others include deeper tones such as darker roofing options or richer carpet colours. This gives homeowners the ability to choose a look that feels calm and understated or one that introduces more contrast, while still keeping everything cohesive and timeless.

Whether you’re a first-home buyer making these kinds of choices for the first time, or a seasoned investor wanting a clean, versatile finish that appeals to many tenants, the moodboards are designed to make decision-making simple, clear, and enjoyable.

Why Miro Homes Matters Right Now

In a market that can feel out of reach, Miro Homes offers something refreshing: a practical, achievable path to owning a new home. For first-home buyers, it’s an opportunity to step into homeownership sooner. For investors, it’s a chance to create appealing homes in high-demand areas, supported by clear plans and defined finish options.

And for Orkney Group, Miro Homes completes the picture, allowing us to support a wide range of people across Wellington, each with their own aspirations, priorities, and plans for the future.
